Getting started offline

Complete onboarding and download the recognition models, approximately 521 MB in total. Use a reliable connection and keep the app open during download. Once both models are installed, sound and photo identification can work without internet access.

A download stopped or failed

Check your connection and available storage, then retry from Offline Models. Removing models does not delete your journal, but you will need to download them again before offline recognition works.

A bird was not identified correctly

Try a clearer photo, crop around one bird, or make a short recording with less background noise. Compare the suggested species with what you saw and heard. No identification result is guaranteed.

Microphone, camera or photos are unavailable

Review BirdEar's permissions in your device settings. Microphone and camera access are used only when you choose those features. Location is optional.

Delete saved data

BirdEar Settings provides options to remove recordings, clear the journal or delete all local data. Model downloads are managed separately. Local deletion cannot be undone. iOS backups may contain saved journal data or captures.

Moving to another phone

BirdEar has no cloud journal sync. Your device's backup and restore settings may affect whether saved entries transfer. Recognition models must be downloaded again if they are not installed.
